The Sirui ET-1004 is a lightweight tripod that folds up very small, but is its maximum height too much of a compromise?
Sirui is entering the UK market for the first time with a range of high quality tripods, and the Sirui ET-1004 is in the vanguard of its product range. It’s an enthusiast-level aluminium tripod-and-head kit featuring flip-lock legs for a fast setup, and automatic angle locks. This full-size tripod has a slightly underwhelming maximum height of 140cm, but thanks to its upwards-folding legs, it can be collapsed down to only 42cm, so it will even fit inside some kit bags. At 1.3kg it’s also extremely lightweight, and with its case and shoulder strap, is a great option for those who enjoy being out and about. While it doesn’t have a swinging central column, it does comes with a short column to enable low-angle shooting, something that will appeal to macro photographers. The kit’s E-10 ball head features a separate adjustment knob for smooth and fluid panning, as well as a bubble level to help you find a straight horizon. Sirui claims the head’s locking mechanism can support up to 8kg, meaning it should easily support a pro DSLR and large telephoto lens. The tripod comes with a generous 6-year manufacturer warranty as standard, and a padded carry bag.
The ET-1004 tripod kit would be ideal for any photographer, but it’s perhaps best suited to landscapers thanks to a lightweight and compact design. However, at £180 it finds itself up against some very stiff competition. So, we would consider it good, but not exceptional value for money.
