The best action kit as recommended by Mike Inkley

Photojournalist Mike Inkley chooses his favourite camera and lenses for shooting sports and action…

Camera: Olympus OM-D E-M1 MkII
"With this launch, Olympus jumped into the pro action and sport market where to really cut it you previously had to be a Nikon or Canon user. Olympus scored for portability, and the Zuiko Pro lenses are as good as any system on the market. The E-M1 MkII blew every other manufacturer out of the water for speed. I’m never wanting for blistering performance and often get images that other slower cameras just miss."

Prime lens: Olympus M.Zuiko 300mm f/4 IS PRO
"In my previous life as a Canon user I can say two things about using a traditional 600mm f/4. Firstly, over a weekend your shoulders and arms really hurt and, secondly, everyone you ever meet while using it knows you’re a serious photographer. With the Olympus lens, I can carry it all day with ease, it can fit into a large pocket and you’re far less conspicuous to people and wildlife while using it. This means it goes more places and I get more pictures than I ever could before."

Zoom lens: Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO
"This is my favourite lens of all time from any manufacturer. The Olympus lens is smaller than an old 70-200mm f/2.8 but is so much more portable and quicker to focus – it’s just a pleasure to use. Given that it has almost macro lite capability and removes the need for both an 80-200mm f/2.8 and a 300mm f/2.8 it’s a real no-brainer to have as my go-to lens."
